Pennisetum alopecuroides – Nafray
Common Name: Swamp or Foxtail Grass
A lovely native form of Pennisetum that forms a compact clump of slim arching leaves. The feathery flowers are cream when they first appear ageing to a mauvey colour. Cut it back to the ground late Winter before new shoots appear. Note that while this species does seed, it is not as invasive as the exotic pennisetum species. To date I have only seen a couple of seedlings pop up around the adult clump which were easily removed.
Flowering Time: Summer to Autumn
Flowering Colour: Cream - mauve
Position: Full sun to part shade
Width: 60cm
Height: 80cm
