Odontonema tubaeforme

When my father retired he became the gardener at ‘Cranbrook’, an historic home at Illawong in Sydney where he took cuttings of this lovely plant.
It’s an easy care shrub with large glossy green leaves that is covered in spires of rich red flowers during late Summer and Autumn that the honeyeaters just love. Prefers morning sun or dappled shade. I have one that receives afternoon sun and it wilts a bit but recovers quickly.
I just cut it back by about a third with the hedger once it’s finished flowering to keep it in a nice rounded shape. It can sometimes lose a few leaves during very cold wet winters.

Flowering Time: Autumn Winter
Flowering Colour: Red
Position: Morning sun or part/dappled shade
Width: 1-1.5m
Height: 1.5m
